I Said I’d be Home

When my friend invited me to visit a while with her before her other guests arrived, I lept at the chance. Due to our schedules, our times of fellowship alone were infrequent. Hence my surprise when I arrived and her car wasn’t in her driveway. Since her car was always parked when she was home, I assumed something had come up. Disappointed, I left. Continue reading

Easter Egg Hunt

With Easter only a few days away, I fondly recall one Easter years ago that I spent with my dear friends, Jan and Rick and their two young sons, David and Matthew.  While I distracted the boys, the parents strategically hid Easter eggs throughout the backyard. Continue reading

Who’s the Mommy?

Two little boys sit side by side, legs dangling over the edge of their chairs. Timmy, five years old, and Jason, eight, stare at the floor, sheepishly waiting their chastening. What’s Your Address?

Good Monday Morning!

A few days ago I received a “special offer” from a local restaurant. At least I think it’s local. Nowhere written on this slick, beautifully designed trifold brochure had they included their location! Clearly they had put much thought and effort into it but they’d missed a critical piece of information.

Got me thinking.  As this week begins, I want to be purposeful as I cross paths with others, be they strangers, coworkers, family, or friends. With each encounter, I want to ask God how I can be sensitive to the needs of those around me. What do they need to hear from me most?

Unlike that restaurant, I do want to remember the obvious today. That whatever is happening around me, I can never go wrong offering a warm smile and a kind, gracious word of encouragement.

A man has joy in an apt answer, And how delightful is a timely word! (Proverbs 15:23)
