With Easter only a few days away, I fondly recall one Easter years ago that I spent with my dear friends, Jan and Rick and their two young sons, David and Matthew. While I distracted the boys, the parents strategically hid Easter eggs throughout the backyard.
Some of those eggs were deliberately “hid” just a few feet away in plain view on the grass. Still, four-year-old Matthew needed guidance. “Matthew, look. Over there. See the pink one…the blue one.” Once he saw one, he’d gleefully run and snatch up the Easter egg, tossing it into his basket.
David, on the other hand–older by three years–expected to hunt for his eggs and was content to leave those in plain sight for his little brother. With expectancy and a keen eye, he ran from one end of the backyard to the other, peeking under piles of leaves, around bushes and trees, even under the deck. Anywhere he thought an egg might be hidden, he checked.
I got a kick out of watching the two boys’ joy in each discovery and it reminded of Proverbs 2:
“Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the Lord grants wisdom!” (Proverbs 2:2-6)
It’s my lifetime passion and goal to know Jesus Christ more and more. I want to grow in wisdom, earnestly seeking spiritual truths as if searching for buried treasure. The cool part is that God wants to reveal Himself to me and to anyone who would seek Him. All we have to do is ask.
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)
